Willow Home
Willow Home on 8/9/23, Buffalo, NY
Willow Home is a “Natural Deinstallation” sculpture: untreated woodcarvings that embrace decay as part of the sculptural process while they live the rest of their lives in the forest. Willow Home’s overhangs, pockets, holes, and range of textures offer a home to beings of the forest, places for water to collect and plants to grow. The carving originated from a willow tree struck down by the Buffalo Blizzard of 2022.
Since the installation in August 2023, Willow Home has become a haven for a diverse array of fungi and insects. Nurtured by the forest, Willow Home is a thriving ecosystem. A series of photos, taken on November 17, 2023, shows the fascinating coexistence and interconnectedness between these organisms and Willow Home.
